Overview
The Platefull restaurant site allows diners to compare meals of their own and other restaurants to judge the quality of their meals.
Analysis
This was a really interesting concept and site to develop especially as the Platefull restaurant was behind the sites creation.
The site allowed the users to rate the quality of their meals, upload new images of the meals they are eating. Compare and contrast different versions of the same meal from different restaurants and see ingredients used in those meals.
The concept was a daunting one. Allowing diners to rate their meals could have led to missuse of the system but the analysis allowed the creation of a system that was fair to all.
Solution
A grading system was created in order to allow the diners to immediately grade their meals in a number of different categories. This initial grading system was followed up with a series of questions the user had to undertake in regard to the meals at their own convenience. This allowed potentially malicious or fraudulent gradings to be weeded out and also gave the restaurants involved the right to see and reply to any negative reviews that would be posted.
This was a giant leap of faith for the small restaurant chain but one which led to an honest dialogue between the restaurants that took part. Customers who participated were invited to meal evenings where new recipe concepts where trialedout in an open environment. For the customers they received a exciting evening out trialing new dishes and the restaurants received valuable feedback on their dishes which would help them imrove and balance their offerings.
Achievements
The success of the concept led to more restaurants and pubs joining they platefull site. Improving customers dining experience as well as offering a great uptake in the number of visitors at the restaurants.
